Who is eligible to apply?
Any Manchester resident of at least six months
duration immediately prior to Friday, April 6, 2012, deadline for
this application, and who will be or is a graduate of Manchester
High School, East Catholic High School, Howell Cheney Technical
School, or other secondary school and is planning to enter an
accredited four-year college, university, or other accredited
post-secondary school as a full-time student in the fall of 2012.
Awards are for the 2012-2013 school year. Scholarships are offered
only to students graduating from a secondary school in January or
June of 2012 except for the Arthur Goodman Strong Memorial
Scholarship as explained in Part C.
What are the scholarship criteria?
The criteria include the following:
- Scholastic achievement
- Demonstrated financial need
- School and community activities
How are scholarships awarded?
The amount of each scholarship awarded will vary and depends
upon available funds. Financial need is determined using a modified
version of the U.S. Department of Education's formula for
calculating financial aid need. Financial statements are mailed
directly to a professional college financial aid consultant for
evaluation and are held in strict confidence. The local selection
committee does not see any financial statements.
Scholarships are for one year and are non-renewable. The money will be paid on a semester basis directly to the school the applicant will attend.
Applicants must notify the Manchester Scholarship Foundation of any change of school.
Awards will be presented to recipients at the Awards Ceremony to be held in June 2012. The ceremony will be held in the SBM Charitable Foundation Auditorium at Manchester Community College.
